Papers are due this Thursday
The first paper is due this Thursday, the paper is a reaction to the field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which everyone attended. This paper is worth 5% of your grade; and a double spaced hard copy is due at the beginning of class time on Thursday.

Preview of the Ceramics as Installation Project
Hey class,
The next (and final) project will be a ceramics installation project where you will be creating multiple units to place together (hanging) to create a complete installation. This project is open ended, I would like you to come up with a proposal and lots of sketches or maquettes before beginning the final version. The project can hang from cord, wire, fishing line, or from nails on the wall. Here are a couple of images for ideas.
You might think of this project as a move from the traditional to the contemporary; a chance to show the versatility of the ceramic medium and how it can display weight in many different ways.
Note: all of the artists below are using ceramic except Paul Villinski but his work could easily be inspired to produce something similar in clay.

Glaze Shelves are full of our work
The glaze shelves are looking beautiful with shiny and matte surfaces of all sorts.
We got an early start and have been spoiled with being the only class glazing, but soon all the other sections will be glazing and we will be taking bit of a "break" for you all to focus on the Architectural project. Please continue to make tests and test tiles of glazes that you may want to experiment with.

Sneak Peak
Hello all,
This is a reminder that next Thursday we are having a vocabulary quiz of terms 1-10 promptly at the beginning of class time. We will then proceed to the days demo which is using the extruder to create forms mechanically.
There will be homework, this is a sneak peak of that assignment. You will be asked to design the sides of the boxes that we will make in class on October 1st. Please research images of patterns or designs that are important to you, examples include aztec, middle eastern, asian, or modern designs using squares, curved lines, or triangles, anything can be used, but I want this to be thought out and fully realized by next class. Use color in your design (as seen in the image below) if you intend the final product to have color. I will be asking that you adhere to this design when you build your box and expect the drawings to be translated onto the clay surface.
So what inspires you? Something as simple as google image searching "pattern" might help you with this assignment.
